How We Treat
Therapeutic Exercise
By prescribing exercises that correct impairments and restore function, we aim to build optimal movement patterns and performance.
We work closely with our clients to design programs and roadmaps specifically for their needs and goals.
Manual Therapy
We combine exercise with a hands on approach to maximize effectiveness in reducing pains and improving motion. Using manual and massage techniques, we can reduce restrictions that cause us pains and joint stiffness.
Some of the techniques we use are:
- Soft Tissue Massage
- Joint mobilization
- Trigger Point Release
- Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage (IASTM)
- Myofascial Decompression (Cupping)
- Dry Needling (Coming Soon)
Out-of-Network
Greater Heights Physical Therapy and Performance is an out-of-network provider, meaning that we do not take insurance. That does not mean you cannot receive reimbursement from your insurance company. Because this is complex topic, we like to discuss how to receive reimbursement from your insurance company during a screening call or in person.
What is Out-of-Network
Out-of-network means that we do not accept insurances, and instead we treat by a cash-based treatment model. This allows us the freedom to customize your care without the limitations insurance companies put on providers.
Why do you not take insurance
By providing a cash-based model, we treat YOU, not the insurance companies. Unfortunately, insurance companies have a strong influence on how clinics provide treatments. This leads to short sessions, overworked therapists, being bounced around between many therapists, assistants, or unlicensed aides, and ultimately inconsistent care.
When it comes to payments, most insurance companies do not cover the entire cost of treatment. Many patients will be responsible for copays until their deductible is met, and many times will not know their total cost until months later when they receive their bill after treatment.
This all leads to a decrease in the quality of care that patient might receive and will likely result in more visits required to reach your goals. Many patients will have 2-3 session per week.
Benefits of being out-of-network
The largest benefit is the quality of care it allows us to provide our clients. You will have direct one-on-one access with the same doctor of physical therapy at each of your visits. Being out-of-network means that we can focus on your goals without worry of unreasonable patient volumes. We can develop customized plans for your recovery and you will have more access to your physical therapist outside of the treatment session.
You are not another number to us and we refuse to compromise your care. In many cases, the cost of treatment will be less than using insurance, as cash-based practices often require less visits for your plan of care.
What to Expect:
- One-on-one sessions with the same provider each treatment.
- 60 Minute treatment sessions.
- A customized treatment plan for your sessions and home program designed to help you recover quicker.
- Less visits means less total cost.
- Upfront cost with no surprise billing from insurances.
- No denying of care by insurances.
Do I need a Doctor's Referral?
Michigan is a direct access state, meaning that a prescription is not necessary for physical therapy for the first 10 visits or 21 days after the first visit. If we are planning on go past this date, we will work with you to request a referral from your primary care physician.
What should I bring/wear to a session?
Please wear clothing that is not restrictive (jeans, collared shirts). Clothing should be comfortable and easy to move around and exercise in. If the shoulder or upper back area is what we are treating, short sleeved shirts are preferred for access to the shoulder muscles if manual therapy will be provided.
Otherwise, bring yourself and maybe a water bottle to stay hydrated!
